Intermediate Interior Designer – Corporate & Residential (Toronto)

A Toronto-based architectural and design firm is seeking a creative Mid-Level Interior Designer  to oversee large-scale projects for a wide variety of building interiors with the firm’s clients and partners.

This firm has an outstanding portfolio that has focused on educational, recreational and heritage projects. Most recently, they have specialized on affordable housing projects and are experts in Passive House Design.

About The Interior Designer Position

The Mid-Level Interior Designer will build and maintain strong client relationships and be able to manage projects from the design concept stage to completion. You will create floor plan layouts as per clients’ program requirements, design and detail architectural elements and millwork, prepare construction drawing packages, research and source furniture, and coordinate with clients, contractors and suppliers.

Your role as an Interior Designer will be under the supervision of the Project Architect. You will be responsible for reviewing the construction progress, attending site meetings and preparing site documentation. You will manage communications with clients and act as the primary consultant who will coordinate between structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers.

The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge of building systems and detailing, with the ability to work independently, while developing and coordinating contract documents and document checking.

Day-to-day duties include: assisting in the development of architectural and interior architectural designs .You will also analyze building codes, by-laws, space requirements, site requirements and other technical documents and reports. As well as, be involved in all phases of project development; Schematic Design, Design Development, Working Drawings (including specifications) and Contract Administration.

Ongoing duties include: Preparing manual and Revit working drawings, specifications, cost estimates and listings of quantities of material from conceptual drawings and instructions. Carrying out the completion of a project from design development, permit/tender documentation to construction administration. Knowledge of current design trends and experience with furniture specification and procurement process is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for an interior designer with a University Degree or Equivalent, from an accredited School of Interior Design and registered member of ARIDO. You should have a minimum of 5 years experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit 2019, and the Ontario Building Code. As well as construction methods, finishes and furnishes. Strong designer and graphic skills is a bonus. Along with excellent project management skills and experience coordinating projects with structural and MEP disciplines.
