A Toronto architecture and design studio is seeking an experienced architectural professional to become the technical go-to person within a small team.

This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, supporting colleagues and ensuring drawings are accurate, coordinated and ready for submission and construction. You will bring strong Ontario Building Code knowledge and sound judgment to the team, helping translate design ideas into well-resolved documentation.

The Role

Working closely with the studio principal and project team, you will provide day-to-day technical guidance and lead quality control across project drawings and documentation. You should be comfortable answering questions, identifying issues early and helping colleagues work through practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the team’s primary resource for technical questions, construction detailing and Ontario Building Code interpretation.
  • Review drawings and documentation for accuracy, completeness, coordination and code compliance.
  • Establish consistent quality control practices and drawing standards.
  • Develop and review construction details, helping resolve technical challenges while maintaining design intent.
  • Support permit submissions and responses to municipal review comments.
  • Coordinate architectural documentation with consultants and flag conflicts or missing information.
  • Mentor team members and explain the reasoning behind technical decisions.
  • Contribute directly to drawing production and project delivery.

What You Bring

  • Senior-level experience as an Architectural Technologist, Architect or comparable architectural professional.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (Part 3) and experience applying it to project documentation.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing permit and construction drawing packages.
  • A solid understanding of building assemblies, construction methods and detailing.
  • Relevant residential project experience, including custom homes or multi-family housing.
  • A careful, practical approach to quality control and problem-solving.
  • The ability to give clear direction, answer questions confidently and support a small team.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing project priorities.

This role would suit someone who enjoys being closely involved in the work and wants to make a meaningful contribution to the technical strength and development of a small studio.
